Once upon a time, in ancient China, there was a beautiful and intelligent woman named Chang’e. She was the wife of a famous archer named Hou Yi. Hou Yi was known throughout the land for his incredible skill with a bow and arrow.
One year, the ten suns in the sky decided to take a break from their celestial duties and all rose at once, scorching the earth and causing great suffering to the people. Hou Yi, with his great strength and skill, took it upon himself to shoot down the nine extra suns, leaving only one to warm the world.
For his bravery and heroism, the Queen Mother of the West presented Hou Yi with an elixir of immortality. However, Hou Yi knew that the world needed him to continue his duties and so he decided to share the elixir with his people.
But there was a greedy servant named Feng Meng who wanted the elixir for himself. One day, when Hou Yi was out, Feng Meng sneaked into the house and tried to steal the elixir. In the struggle, the elixir was shattered into pieces, with one piece falling into Hou Yi’s hands and the rest scattered to the heavens.
As the elixir pieces ascended, they transformed into a bright light that filled the sky. Hou Yi realized that the pieces were the elixir of immortality, now scattered among the stars. He was heartbroken, but also determined to retrieve them.
Meanwhile, Chang’e had been watching the sky in wonder. She saw the beautiful light and was captivated by its beauty. She asked Hou Yi about it, and he explained the story of the elixir and the greedy servant. Chang’e was touched by Hou Yi’s selflessness and his love for his people.
Determined to help her husband, Chang’e decided to ascend to the moon to retrieve the remaining pieces of the elixir. Hou Yi, though initially hesitant, agreed to let her go, knowing that his love for her was stronger than his desire for immortality.
With a tear in her eye, Chang’e took a magical potion that would allow her to leave the earth. She stepped onto a cloud and began her journey to the moon. As she ascended, the stars seemed to twinkle brighter, and the moon seemed to beckon her closer.
Once Chang’e reached the moon, she found the remaining pieces of the elixir scattered across its surface. She carefully gathered them, but as she held them, she felt a strange pull from the moon’s gravity. She realized that she could not return to the earth.
Chang’e was not alone on the moon. She found that the moon had its own inhabitants, a family of rabbits that lived in a cave. They were kind and welcoming, and Chang’e felt a sense of comfort in their presence.
From that day on, Chang’e lived on the moon, watching over the earth and the stars. She became the Moon Goddess, and her story was told for generations. Her love for Hou Yi and her selfless act of ascending to the moon became a symbol of loyalty and the enduring power of love.
And so, the tale of Chang’e, the Moon Goddess, continues to be told, a beautiful legend that has captivated the hearts of people for centuries.
