Once upon a time, in the ancient Chinese capital of Chang’an, there lived a young boy named Sima Guang. He was known for his intelligence and bravery. One sunny afternoon, while playing in the courtyard of his home, Sima Guang noticed a small pond filled with water.

Suddenly, he heard cries for help from a nearby street. A child had fallen into the pond, and the water was rising rapidly. The child was struggling to stay afloat, but the situation was dire. Sima Guang knew he had to act quickly.

Without hesitation, Sima Guang ran to the pond and saw the child in trouble. He looked around for something that could help save the child. Suddenly, his eyes fell upon an old, large jar lying nearby. It was empty, but it was big enough to hold the child.

Sima Guang picked up the jar and rushed to the pond. He carefully placed the jar under the child, who was now too weak to lift his head. The water was still rising, but the jar was holding the child above the surface.

As Sima Guang struggled to keep the jar steady, he thought about how he could save both the child and the jar. He looked around and saw a stone nearby. Without a moment’s hesitation, he picked up the stone and smashed the jar open.

The water rushed out of the jar, and the child was freed. Sima Guang quickly helped the child onto the shore, where he was safe and sound. The people of Chang’an were amazed by Sima Guang’s bravery and intelligence. They praised him as a hero and spread the story of Sima Guang smashing the jar to save the child.

From that day on, Sima Guang was known as the boy who saved the child with his quick thinking and bravery. His story became a legend, and people would often remind others to be brave and smart, just like Sima Guang.
